India’s former Prime Minister Late Indira Gandhi when she visited Japan, was highly impressed by the business policy of Late Konusuke Matsushita. It was then decided to set up a dry cell battery unit in financial & technical collaboration with Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Limited, Japan, the leaders in this field.
Late D D Lakhanpal, the founder of the Panasonic Energy India Co Ltd. formerly Panasonic Battery India Co Ltd & Konusuke Matsushita laid the foundation stone of the Lakhanpal National at G I D C Makarpura Industrial Estate, Vadodara.
The incorporation of the company took place on May 21,1972. The building work and installation of the machinery from Japan was undertaken rapidly & the production commenced from July 2, 1973 with metal jacketed cell in Hyper Grade in UM-1 & UM-2 segments. On October 1, 1973 the company introduced Hi-Top grade performance cell for the first time in India and on January 1, 1976 it introduced paper jacketed 'Special' cells.
Since then, the company has progressed between ups and downs by sincere efforts of management & employees and the future has been paved for higher achievements.
