It is located in Mumbai and forms an important part of the private sector fertilizer industry in India. The company's production plant is situated in the Kharivali village in Maharashtra. Bharat Fertilizer Industries has played a major role to play in boosting the performance of India's agricultural sector and hence that of the Indian economy, as well. The Indian government made certain polices for the fertilizer industry and these worked favorably for Bharat Fertilizer Industries. In 2012 the company changed its name from Bharat Fertiliser Industries Ltd to Bharat Agri Fert & Realty Ltd. "
Bharat Fertilizer Industries manufactures 66,000 tonnes of SSP fertilizers and 33,000 tonnes of sulphuric acid per year.
In recent years, Bharat Fertilizer Industries has modernized its plants and this has led to increased productivity and better quality of products. Also, the modernization has resulted in making the plants more environmentally friendly and has reduced the energy consumption per tonne of product.
Bharat Fertilizer Industries is engaged in the manufacturing of single super phosphate (powder and granulated), sulphuric acid and alum (liquid and solid) at its plant situated at Kharivali Village, Taluka Wada, District Thane. The company has also undertaken real estate development activity at Majiwada.
