UCO bank formerly known as United Commercial Bank, incorporated on 6th of January 1943. It was vision of Mr. G.D Birla to form a truly Indian Bank which came into reality after 'Quit India' movement. The bank has headquartered in Kolkata.
It got nationalised in the year 1969 and 100% ownership was taken over by Government in the bank. After this lot of changes took over in banking activities such as it started its branch expansion in fast pace especially in rural areas and it also went through organisational restructuring. This resulted in functional specialisation and decentralization of administration.
In 1985 the name of bank was changed to UCO Bank. Presently it has a network of over 2000 branches, over 370 ATMs, and 35 regional offices across country as well as in Singapore and Hong Kong.

It was honoured with “National Awards for Excellence in Lending to Micro Enterprises” for its excellent performance in lending to micro enterprises from Government of India and Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.
2013-14

2014-15
• UCO Bank has been awarded 1st Prize in the category of Best Bank for operational performance for 2014. UCO BANK was also awarded the runners- up under the category of best Bank amongst large banks for the year ended 2014,iIn the function held by the Chamber of Indian Micro Small & Medium Enterprises in New Delhi on 10.01.2015, Hon'ble Minister of MSME, Mr. Kalraj Mishra gave the awards.
• UCO Bank has been awarded with Banking Excellency Award 2013-14 by State Forum of Bankers Club at Cochin on 13.12.2014. Bank was adjudged as the best banker at the national level for the year 2013-14. On behalf of the Bank, T S Mallikarjuna, General Manager & Circle Head, Chennai received the prestigious award from Justice Shri P Sadasivam, Retired Chief Justice of Supreme Court and Honorable Governor of Kerala. The function was presided over by Shri Abraham Tharyan, Executive Director of South Indian Bank who is also chairman of State forum of Bankers club. Shri Nirmal Chand, Regional Director, RBI was also present on the occasion.
• UCO Bank had been awarded First Prize for Highest average loan to SHGs in West Bengal State during the year 2013-14 under Commercial Bank category on the eve of celebration of NABARD Foundation Day on 12.07.14.
• UCO Bank received prestigious SKOCH AWARD for Excellence in Banking in Financial Inclusion and Deeping 2014
2016-17
• UCO BANK has been conferred with Special Award by National Payments Corporation of India, in the ‘National Payments Excellence Awards 2016’ function held on March 08, 2017 at Mumbai.
• The Special award recognises excellent performance of the Bank in in select parameters of various NPCI products
• On behalf of the Bank, General Manager (DIT, BPR & BTD) received the prestigious award.
• UCO BANK has been awarded the runners-up under the category of “Best Payments Initiatives” amongst mid-sized banks for the year ended 2016, in the function held by Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) in Banking Technology Conference, Expo & Awards 2016 held on February 21, 2017 at Mumbai.
