Bharat Dynamics (BDL), established in 1970, is a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence and a manufacturer of Surface to Air Missiles (SAM), Air to Air Missiles (AAM), Anti - Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs), Torpedoes, and Allied Defence Equipments. The company was incorporated on July 16, 1970 as ‘Bharat Dynamics Private Limited’ with the Registrar of Companies, Hyderabad under the Companies Act, 1956. The Board of Directors in their meeting held on October 07, 1970 passed a resolution for deleting the word ‘private’ from the name of Company and the name of company was changed to ‘Bharat Dynamics Limited’ pursuant to an amendment to the certificate of incorporation issued by the Registrar of Companies, Hyderabad. The company became a deemed public limited company under Section 43A of the Companies Act, 1956 with effect from July 01, 1975. Subsequent to the abolition of Section 43A of the Companies Act, 1956, with effect from December 13, 2000, the company again became a private limited company. Further, the company was converted to a public limited company and a fresh certificate of incorporation pursuant to conversion from private to public was issued by the RoC on October 27, 2017. The company has been listed in the Stock Market in March 2018 in Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange.
Since its inception, BDL has been working in collaboration with DRDO & foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for manufacture and supply of various missiles and allied equipment to Indian Armed Forces. Over the years, BDL has evolved as one among few industries in world having state-of-the-art facilities for manufacture and supply of Guided Missiles, Underwater Weapons, Air-borne products and allied defence equipment for Indian Armed Forces. BDL also offers Product Life Cycle Support for all equipment supplied and also refurbishment / life extension of vintage Missiles already available in the inventory of the Indian Armed Forces. While fulfilling its basic role as guided weapon system manufacturer, BDL has also built-up in-house R&D capabilities primarily focused on Design & Engineering activities. BDL is relentlessly working to contribute its part towards creation of a self-reliant India ‘Viksit Bharat’ in the area of Defence. The company is endeavouring to forge alliance with foreign companies to take the ‘Make in India’ mission further. Thrust is being given to engage with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for new missiles and underwater weapons with potential Transfer of Technology. BDL has forayed into international market by offering its products to foreign countries.

2019: TOLIC (U) functioning is being taken care by BDL and was awarded “Dakshin Kshetriya Rajbhasha Puraskar” for the year 2017-18 in Region “C” for best implementation of OL on 14th Feb., 2019. The award was presented by Governor of Kerala.
2020: Conferred with best practices in CSR Awards - Special Awards CSR through CSR and best practices in CSR Award for addressing Disability by IPE in Hyderabad in Jan 2020.
2023-24: The Silver Award for Innovation & Quality was won jointly by BDL & DGAQA in the National level QCC competition conducted by GRSE-SODET in November 2023 in Kolkata.

2017-18: The company successfully completed its Initial Public Offer and became a listed company with effect from 23 March 2018 by listing its equity shares on National Stock Exchange of India Ltd and BSE Ltd.
2017-18: 5 MW Solar Photo Voltaic Power Project commissioned at BDL, Bhanur.
2018-19: BDL has completely executed Milan- 2T ATGM contract well before the contractual delivery schedule.
2018-19: BDL inaugurated production facility for manufacturing of Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile
(MP-ATGM).
2018-19: BDL inaugurated Acoustic Tank Test Facility at its Visakhapatnam Unit. The test facility is one of its kind world class test facility used for testing underwater weapons like Torpedoes, Mines, Sono buoys, Decoys and other related systems.
2019-20: Handed over first Heavy Weight Torpedo (Varunastra) from the production order of Indian Navy during “Bandhan” Programme in February 2020.
2019-20: Akash SAM two regiment order along with GSE has been executed completely. Further, the company has received Akash SAM order worth Rs.1700 Crore for supply of Akash Missiles along with associated spares.
2019-20: Corporate Office of Company has been certified with ISO 9001: 2015 Certification in Feb 2020 by the Certification body M/s.Novo Star Management Solutions India Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru.
2019-20: company has obtained PCMM level-II certification and the first Defence PSU to implement the PCMM level certification for HR Process.
2021-22: The first Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) for delivery to Indian Air Force was flagged off by Director General (Missiles & strategic systems).
2021-22: Guided Flight trials of MPATGM (Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile) with critical sub systems i.e. Seeker, OBPP (On Board Power Pack) and CAS (Control Actuation System) was successfully test fired by DRDL. BDL team was involved in integration and testing of these Missiles.
2021-22: The second control flight of Akash-NG (New Generation) was successfully test fired to ascertain the repeatability of performance and also first guided test with Indigenous RF Seeker was test fired successfully. BDL team was actively involved in integration, testing and check out at Akash NG facility created.
2021-22: New version of Akash Missile- ‘Akash Prime’ has been successfully test fired from integrated Test Range (ITR), Odisha. The missile Intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target mimicking enemy aircrafts. BDL team is involved in integrating and testing, the missiles.
2021-22: DROO successfully test fired surface-to-surface Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Agni-5 from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. BDL team is involved in Rocket Motors integration, Explosives, Final Integration, Testing, Canisterization of Missile and Checkout of A5 Systems.
2021-22: Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MR SAM) Army weapon system has once again proved its effectiveness as two missiles, during the fight tests, achieved direct hits against high speed aerial targets at integrated test range, Chandipur. Odisha.
2021-22: Varunastra, first time ever combat mode firing to test the maximum endurances of the batteries (combat for full length of 20 Km) has been successfully conducted and has met the mission requirements and objectives. Apart from this, three regular practice firings were successfully conducted.
2022-23: Raksha Mantri inaugurated the Warhead facility and virtually inaugurated the RF (Radio Frequency) Seeker facility and Central Storage facility. These facilities are essential for realizing Atmanirbharta in Defence manufacturing by the company.
2022-23: The major products executed during the year are ATGMs, Akash-SAM, Varunastra and MR-SAM.
2023-24: RRM Ajay Bhatt flagged off the indigenously developed and BDL manufactured Astra Missiles for supply to the Indian Air Force in January 2024 at BDL, Kanchanbagh Unit, Hyderabad.
2023-24: The last Varunastra of the order from Indian Navy was flagged off by Dr Y Sreenivas Rao, DS & DG (NS&M) at BDL Vizag Unit in presence of dignitaries from IHQ, ENC, NSTL, NAD & NAI.
2024-25: The company has successfully evaluated trails of new generation ATGMs, upgraded Surface to Air Missiles, Vertical Launched Short Range Surface to Air Missiles (VL-SRSAM), Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missiles (LR-LACM) and Underwater Weapons.
